As promised, sloppy joes were brought to the best buddies for their first week of school. Can you picture they guys growing old together? So now sloppy joes are requested for the first and last days of school.
Honestly joining the boys for lunch is one of my favorite things to do. I figure go for it while it lasts. Most recently he asked me to bring him a fresh crepe with strawberries and whip cream for lunch.
Now that I think about it, he has been talking a lot about being a ruler of a kingdom. I think he might already be...... Matthew the Great.
I should mention however, that this below is the scene I found. Apparently I had not been in his bathroom for a few days. In the morning he has been reviewing what exactly the temperature he needs to be in order to stay home for the day. So now I see what he has been up to. And funny that he told me the other day in Target that we are out of temp probe covers. I wonder why. I suppose in his mind, just take it one more time, maybe I will hit the 100. Should I teach him the trick of heating the thermometer under the light?
We already have two dogs. And lets be honest, one of them is on its way out. I'm just not sure exactly how to do it. ( steph, please, you need a new dog. You have the room) Anyways, Matt earned some cash this summer taking care of Grandma and Grandpa Jensen's backyard. So he was rich with $17. And he had a plan. Three new mouths to feed. Shiny, Hopper and the fish with an ever changing name. Oh boy. He is thrilled. His hands are in that tank all day. Always worried about the dwarf frog. Its kinda gross.... I know, I know.
So.. here they are. Wish me luck.
Summer is over and school days begin. I love the first day of school. I love seeing all the kids, the backpacks, the mom's and dad's the brothers and sisters. Its just full of so much emotion. And we all know that the parents are just as excited.
So here is the recap of Matt's morning.
"i don't want to go. I want to be home-schooled" |
Really mom, I will listen to you. You will be my teacher. |
Yeah.. I'm excited to see my friends. I think I remember how to tie my shoes. |
Can I come home after lunch? |
OK sloppy joes for lunch will make the day better. |
Very humid that morning. My hair grew. |
Einstein is so sad. Don't go Matt. I choose home-school also. |
OK so its getting better. I'm ready for my first day. |
The gang walking to school. |
Back in the routine like it was yesterday. But, new cubby this year. |
That black cover on the water bottle later had to be removed. "i think its to much of a temptation for me, I keep playing with it". |

So he made it through his first day of Second grade with Mrs. Cantrell. She is such a wonderful teacher. I am happy to report Matt has had five star days this whole year. He likes to remind us of this also. Actually this morning he proposed that if he was to get five star days for the entire year could we either A. go to disney world with Ben. or B. get a salt water fish tank that is the size of our living room. Both options seem very realistic huh?
On the flip side, I hear about home-schooling everyday. I'm not sure what exactly in his head he thinks will happen on home schooling days. When I ask him he reports this; " do a couple hours of work, you read to me. I will work in the garden, go play with Ben, have lunch, play the ipad, and then help you do some chores." Harvard here we come.
Good to be back in school. Gilbert Christian is such a great place. We are so thankful we get to go there. And don't worry, James is working hard on being known as the guy who is always riding his bike with a cup of coffee. Morning and afternoon. The kids in the neighborhood are so worried he is going to spill his coffee. I love it.
Let the games begin. |
We happen to love wipe out the tv show. And the boys... love it also. They all wish Mr. Coffelt would go on the show, and when he wins, buy them each their own ipad. Dream big.
So wipe out park style was created. This even consists of a park, water balloons, over sized balls and lots of running and yelling. The kids run around crazy dodging balls and the Dad's get their exercise drilling them.
Better run faster... |
See the big ball? And yes.. Matt got hit good here. |
The injuries are growing. Matt personally has sustained two blows to the head. One running into the pole, one running into a pal. There also was a black eye.... seems worth it huh?
